Question: Is blanket "permission to podfic" currently considered, broadly, opt-in or opt-out?

Last time I did podfic was like ... 2008. And many authors felt strongly that podfic was going to Ruin! Fandom! Forever! (Obviously this did not happen, but I feel like I'm referencing an encyclopedia from the cold war sometimes.)
